The OBC Group did it again!

SA Franchise Warehouse recently reported on the OBC Group’s sterling performance in the face of strong economic headwinds. Over the past few years, OBC Group had won several coveted awards. Recently they did it again and announced two more awards. This further cements their position as a professional franchise concept that is virtually recession-proof.

The South African Portuguese Chamber of Commerce recognises individuals and companies with Portuguese links that perform well within the South African business arena. At a glittering gala dinner, held at the Wanderers in Johannesburg on 28th July 2018, the OBC Group was declared winner in two categories, namely SAPCC / Standard Bank Franchisor of the Year 2018 and SAPCC Mandela Tribute Award 2018.

Said Rui Marto, Executive Director of the SAPCC, “The Franchisor of the Year Award celebrates the success of a franchisor who has made a significant impact in the marketplace. After considering all the facts at their disposal, our esteemed panel of judges decided that the OBC Group fits this description perfectly.

“This wasn’t the OBC Group’s only achievement for the night. They were also awarded the Mandela Tribute Award. Created to commemorate the Mandela Centenary, this award is given to a business in recognition of outstanding community support at the level elder statesman Nelson Mandela stood for. Our panel of judges decided that the OBC Group fitted the bill perfectly.”

Expansion of a different kind
As reported in the previous article, the OBC Group had just taken possession of their new state-of-the-art distribution facility in Midrand. We mention this again because when approving the design of the entrance area to the new building, OBC’s Managing Director, Tony da Fonseca, specified the installation of a dedicated display space to house awards the company had won up to then. Having just added two more awards, chances are that an extension to this display area will be needed soon.

Attractive franchise opportunity
The OBC Group is a member of the Franchise Association of South Africa and offers retail franchise opportunities under the OBC Chicken and Meat banner.

Franchising worldwide continues having a 90% success rate as opposed to 10% for those starting a business on their own and whilst the sector in South Africa contributes around R721 billion to the country’s GDP, there are still many businesses masquerading as franchises when in fact their business models are far from that of a franchise.
